to have a sense of personal dignity where there historically has been little but the prospect of adding your individual efforts to the profit of the kingdom at large. The USA law has roots in English Common Law.
An individual is limited in time with intellectual Copyright Laws,
basically to their own lifetime 100yrs, and possibly inherited by benefactor children of their own making, then it is in the Public Domain for all to freely use. 100yrs is appropriate.
