Benefits of Trump’s Deal:
1. We get a return for our billions of dollars, pacifying American resentment of Ukraine and ending the view of Ukrainians as freeloaders.
2. Development of Ukraine’s economy and rebuilding their infrastructure that has been destroyed.
3. American businesses with long term investment in Ukraine is harder to remove than a peace-keeper army of occupation.
4. With US citizens on the ground in eastern Ukraine we have actual skin in the game preventing Ukraine Fatigue if Russia tries again.
5. If Russia tries again they will have to overrun American citizens overseeing American businesses that help fuel our economy. We occupied Nicaragua for 30 years for banana farmers, what would we do for minerals?
Doing this would involve all NATO countries which would make a greater deterrent than a simple guarantee to Ukraine that we would supply them in a war.
Most of all, Ukrainian casualties won’t be piling up and they can rebuild their army and develop their own equipment.
At least Russia is willing to talk peace: to get them to agree Trump likely had to keep NATO membership off the table along with any written pledge of US guarantees for Ukrainian independence.
