The Federal government dictates curriculum. It is a shame. Remember Bush's No Child Left Behind? A UN promoted education curriculum that destroys effective education. I had very intelligent young men work with me when I was supervising who could not write legibly enough to read their own handwriting. They would hand me a list, and I would ask what does this say? They'd look at it and say, I don't know. I'd say, but you just wrote this, right? Yes. They were so ashamed. I spent a lot of time teaching them how to write and how to spell- even how to copy a label on a container. I had to teach them basic math- addition, subtraction, multiply and divide. They never got it in 12 years of school and often graduated at the top of their class. This is Paradise Lost- entire generations of functional illiterates and they are some of the most intelligent people I've ever worked with, just pathetically "educated.".
