Can you volunteer at a food bank?
Volunteer to help out at The Salvation Army?
Work in your church to keep infants during services?

I think so. Those are really good ideas, thank you!

I'll try to volunteer for my projects and see if it's allowed. (It probably is)

I would also like to add that I don't want to "minister" to others. I do not believe in Christianity and I don't want to tell people that they should reject logic and reason for a god that doesn't exist.

There are atheist chaplains. Hell, there are probably atheist pastors, ministers, preachers and priests. Think of the class as a rigorous, specifically themed drama class--your job is to act a part. Lots of religion is theater. Whether or not any of the teachings are "true" is beside the point.

Look at it this way: religion is make-believe. Acting like you believe in religion is also make-believe. So pretending to believe in it is really not that different from actually believing in it; it just places the emphasis on the fiction of your belief instead of on the fiction of the religion itself.

But I don't want to turn people into Christians. I want to get the assignment done, but in a way that won't change people's minds.

Your school makes you try to convert people? That's f**ked up. I can't think of a positive spin to put on that. You're kind of in a no-win situation. I guess the virtuous thing to do is tell them you can't in good conscience try to sway people towards a religion that you don't have faith in yourself. If they don't like it, cool, more evidence that religious authorities are asswipes.

Yeah, it's an LCMS school that I go to since my parents are Christian. Someone else gave me the idea to do volunteer work. I'll try that since it's helping others, but I don't have to tell them to convert.

They made me go. They're Christian and I'm atheist and they're against that. Last summer when I told them I wanted to switch schools because I wasn't Christian, they made me talk to a pastor three times a week during the summer. All it did was make me even more convinced that Christianity is indoctrination.

I'm not against helping others, but I don't want to tell them to believe in something I don't.

My school is a private Christian school that requires everyone to take 4 credits worth of bible/faith classes. I originally took a class where we only studied the bible, but 2nd semester changed the class into a faith-applying class. I'm atheist but I can't drop the class since it would mess up my schedule too much. I can't just say "I'll pray for ___" every week. It needs to be a way to "act out our faith". for suggestions
