Tackle me if you want, but the word "negro" is Spanish for the color black, and I'm tired of pretending it isn't. I know that's not the point, it just felt like something that should be said, since I'm in a Spanish class this year and learned the words "rubio" (light completed) and "moreno" (dark complexed) today.

"Moreno" is a Spanish word meaning "dark" or "dark complexed," as if to say "black" in terms of ethnicity. Similarly, "Rubio" is the word for "light" or "light complexed," as if to say "white."

"Negro" is the Spanish word for the color black, as in black coffee. It is not a racist term, as most people would have you believe. I have gotten unto arguments over speaking Spanish and using the word "negro" to refer to the color black, even though that's what it means.

Moreno" is Spanish for "brown," not "black"

"Rubio" is Spanish for "blond"

Spanish for "black" doesn't connote what it does when used in English in the USA. Context, history matters.

I am Hispanic, and it is annoying when I say that word and people around me think I'm being racist. I'm glad you're bringing attention to it
