Thanks for your thoughtful reply.
I supply my comments intralinearly:
What is Trump's saving grace>
- His ability to stand and fight in the face of incredibly hostile adversaries.
ALAN: Trump's ability to stand and fight - except against the dictators of the world (Putin, Kim Jung Un, Bolsinaro, Orban) -- is certainly one of Trump's characteristics. I don't consider it a "saving grace."
- I like that he is unfiltered even though it is often perceived as a liability.
ALAN: His "unfilteredness" is often cruel, as evidenced in his treatment of Gold Star families, the military and John McCain. Then we have his attacks on women which reveal his persistent misogyny.

- In his initial run for the Presidency he fronted his own money. He wasn't "owned" by either party.
ALAN: Trump paid for 19.78% of his 2016 campaign. https://www.opensecrets.org/pres16/candidate?id=n00023864
- He has no apparent trouble making difficult decisions no matter who they affect.
ALAN: I don't think he makes difficult decisions, only a great number of unpopular decisions that he feels obliged to mak
- His unabashed and unapologetic patriotism and stated willingness to "put America first" in foreign policy.
<Why didn't Trump "make America great"? during his four years in office?>
- What's wrong with you. America never stopped being great. We live in the best country on Earth.
But you must not share the same opinion of America as I do. Of course it could be "better" since America isn't perfect. But "better" How and in What Way is the topic of much debate, isn't it?
-Obviously Trump failed miserably as a dictator because as President he shared balance of power with Congress and couldn't get their cooperation on many things such as Healthcare reform, and barely got his SCOTUS nominees through the vetting process,

Nice. Yes the generals hate him. Wasn't there an audit of the Pentagon's expenditures, in 2017?
Something like the first one, ever, and they failed it miserably? Well you don't have to worry about Trump turning actual dictator, do you? Without the backing of the armed forces Trump won't be dictator over anyone but those who choose to be in his circle.
