It sounds like you grew up with abstinence-only sex ed. Sorry for your loss, but it's not too late to learn: ALL birth control fails sometimes.

The Pill is 99.8% effective. If someone is that worried about the .2%, using the Pill with condoms (80%) effective, make the odds of pregnancy statistically nil. Using the Pill alone, personally, I never had a failure, and being married, it wouldn't have been a problem for me. But the people worried about it, I'm guessing want to be unfettered and go with the 'heat of the moment' and worry about it after the fact.

[image deleted] If the Pill is 99.8% effective, that means that for every million couples using it as their form of birth control in a given year, 2000 will become pregnant. As of 2022, according to the NIH, "An estimated 151 million women of reproductive age use oral hormonal contraceptives". So, to do the math, that's somewhere in the area of 302,000 unwanted pregnancies in a given year that the adults concerned did their responsible best to prevent.

When you're talking about large numbers of people, those little tenths of percents don't mean what they do when you're considering the risk for yourself.

I have sympathy for them. Then, by your reasoning, there should have be only roughly 302,000 abortion procedures performed in 2022, instead of 1.02 million or whatever the statistic is for that year. But getting back to the original meme, I don't think it is or was in Trump's vision for America to ban abortion in all 50 states. The overturning of Roe v Wade gave the decision back to the states.

That statistic covers people who planned to have sex and planned their birth control using the Pill.

And you're allowed to disagree with me about how important freedom and bodily autonomy are, but you only get to deny yourself those rights, not steal them from others.

And a 14 year old girl, for example, deserves to make her own medical choices when it comes to being sexually active, getting on birth control, and having abortion access without her parent(s) knowledge or consent, when same parents of same girl are responsible for every other aspect of her health and well being. A girl, who by the law, is under the age of consent and is by law a victim of statutory rape. These same 'right to making their own medical choices' which may, in cases, protect exploiters and sexual predators of these same girls or at least some of them.

I do believe that a 14 year old girl has the right to make her own medical choices, since she's the one who will have to live with them. If (however it happens) she finds out that she is pregnant, she can choose to carry it to term or not. Carrying it to term (whether she then raises the baby or gives it up) is significantly riskier for her, medically. Hopefully she is in a state where she can receive all the information that she and her family need to make the best choice (for her).

I believe that parents have a right and a responsibility to their daughter(s) health and well-being without the interference of the government intervening on a minors 'behalf'. Having sex as an underage girl isn't merely a 'choice' it's also risk-taking behavior, exposing herself to STDs, emotional immaturity leading to exploitation in sexual relationship(s) where there is an age difference and unequal power dynamic. Emotions and hormones don't make for the best or wisest decisions. I'm arguing from a position of hindsight. You have your opinion, I have mine, having lived through it and having adult children of my own. Last parting thought: we all came into existence the same way. We were conceived and carried to term, so at what point do you think your life didn't matter assuming your life matters to you now? Why would you say that those ones conceived accidentally don't or shouldn't have the same chance to be here as you or I? Just a thought. . .

The Supreme Court's ruling means that each state makes up its own mind regarding abortion; and Trump is just fine with that. So this political propaganda hyperbole of the collective Left doesn't work with citizens capable of actual independent thought.
