Restaurants figure and report 10% tips on all receipts that don't show a tip. They assume you are old, and tip with cash.

To add, I normally tip in cash at least 20%.

The waitress that had orders not to let the ticket grabbing guy have it and give it to me, was pleased to get a $30 tip for a $47 breakfast.

The last time I invited him and his wife to have a meal with us, when the bill came he grabbed it. I was ticked so I told this waitress to slap his hand if he reached for the bill.

I told him before hand, so she didn't get the chance.

The bill was so low because his wife and mine made small orders.

BTW that tip was "at least 20%."

Not all smart people carry cash, I don't. I tip generously.

Right now, tips are taxable income. If the congress under Trump want to change that, then that's fine... (maybe, though it will cause servers some problems too), but right now it's taxable and helping someone cheat on their taxes is not a conservative thing to do.

I have a bit under $100 in my wallet in various denominations. I receive material deliveries weekly and get great service. My post lady brings packages to my door and my trash man brings the cans from the street to the house.

it never hurts to say "Thanks, you are appreciated."

We keep a little house cash for big deliveries. Not basic stuff. That gets an annual thanks. But that’s not the point of the discussion.
