Criminals OWE a debt to society. Being locked up just puts them in a controlled environment so they can pay/work off RESTITUTION & possibly even learn to Co-Exist.

the difference is that you can choose what job to get (most of the time, if you have the right qualifications). basic work is needed to have a functioning society (and to live). even in the wild, people still have to hunt, which is work. hunting/working to get necessary food is not the same as slavery

Also I think prisoners should be given comfortable spaces. Because as someone who is technically a criminal according to law, prisoners are people too. And punishing them harshly just makes their behavior worse.

but also while I don't think torture is good to use, I don't think prisoners should be treated luxuriously. it could incentivize some people to do crimes to get that luxury, but I think that basic necessities should be provided as well as basic respect
