No one's accusing his accountants of doing anything out of the ordinary - they did as they were told, filing fake invoices for services that had never been provided because Trump approved them and signed the checks.

Please post a credible source. By the way, accountants are forbidden to do anything illegal or advise a client to do anything illegal. This is basic stuff. Ask any accountant.

Trump and his co-conspirators created and approved fake invoices and signed the checks cut to pay them knowing full well they were committing fraud to cover up what the payments were actually for.

The case is based on the word of Cohan who was convicted of lying already. Not sure I care that Trump paid hush money to Stormy. I'm not a lawyer or an accountant, but this doesn't seem a big deal either way. Why did they sit on it so long and only bring it up during the election campaign? No one was killed. Trump's son didn't receive any money from Ukraine. Surely they can't send Trump to jail for this.

Not coincidence - he's only running BECAUSE the presidency is now his only avenue of avoiding legal accountability for his crimes.

That said, your confusion seems to be rooted in the math - the crimes in this particular case all happened between October of 2016 and the middle of 2018, roughly 6-8 years ago.

Prosecutors didn't learn of the crimes until 2018 when his co-conspirator was tried and convicted, but by that time he was protected by the power of his office and would continue to be until January of 2021.

So assuming the investigation started in early 2021, an April 2023 indictment wasn't at all out of the ordinary - so why is the trial happening now? Again, because he and his attorneys caused several delays all to present the same denial defense they've been touting since the indictment a year ago.
