mockery? or cultivator drama? | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
Sad, because that's about half of what's good in Star Wars. I'd call it syncretism, or fanboy cultural appropriation.

Orientalism was a problem in sci-fi long before George Lucas came along:

But Star Wars added interpreting someone else's culture through a Judeo-Christian lens; not to mention all those characters with Asian names played by white actors AKA yellowface.

By the way: the story that the original "Star Wars" (now called "A New Hope" apparently) most blatantly ripped off is a Japanese movie known as "The Hidden Fortress" in English. Yet that film is a straightforward historical drama with absolutely no weird religious content.

Lucas also pillaged Gibbon's Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire for his overarching world setup. It is, like many pieces of art, a congee made of copypasta.

And, yes, I take your point about the yellowface: it's bad. It would be nice if Lucas had done more to promote the work that he was copying (as Tarantino did).
