You are without a doubt the worst director I've ever heard of

It's 100% ok if you see this and don't know who Ed Wood is. He's my biggest hero and inspiration. He's also credited with being the worst director which is the basis for making this meme. A lot of his movies were very low budget, included stock footage, and may have had a very short time to make them.

For example Glen or Glenda a movie that show different sides of why someone might be a transvestite (the 50s term for both cross dressers and transgender people) was filmed in only 4 days. In the movie Ed shows that some people cross dress for comfort, others might for sexual reasons, and others do it because they actually see themselves as the opposite binary gender. His movie suggests that cross dressing cases should be looked at on a case to case basis and gives a small amount of praise towards transitioning for some people. It was very much ahead of its time but not well understood even today because of the shock factor of the crossdressing fetish side. Ed himself was a man who enjoyed cross dressing as a woman sometimes but still identified as a man when asked about it.

Other such reasons he was crowned as the worst director was because of continuity issues or set problems. He couldn't afford to do many reshoots with his budget and didn't stress the small stuff. He believed that filmmaking was about the big picture and people wouldn't pay attention to all the small issues.

Other than directing, Ed Wood also produced, wrote scripts, and acted a bit. He was also a published author. Unfortunately, his projects didn't make him much money. He became a drunk, had a hard time even affording rent or keeping a place to live at, and made let's say adult films and exploitation films as money got tighter. Even with that, I still admire Ed Wood very much.

So the most LGBT hating reviewer ever accidentally made the transgender director famous. 🤣

There were definitely some issues in his films (for example in one of the movies there is a cop that holds a prop gun to his head and maybe uses it to subtly itch his head a bit while another cop talks. That's one of the mistakes Ed would probably consider small enough because he doesn't have enough of a budget to reshoot) but I don't believe Ed Wood deserves the title of the worst director ever. Lol.

He was actually a crossdresser not transgender but he was definitely pro lgbtq+. Ed was pro trans people, pro gender reassignment surgeries for those who need it, pro crossdressers and drag, and was also very ok with gay people (he was allegedly straight himself. Married a few times and some people close to Ed considered him to be a bit of a womanizer) even back in the early 50s which was for sure a big deal back then. There's definitely people who probably don't/didn't like him for the crossdresser thing or his pro lgbtq+ beliefs. He'd write crossdresser characters in his books, would sometimes direct while crossdressing, and would even sometimes go out in public in feminine clothing. :)
