What would Ukraine have done had the US not honored its agreement with them just as Ukraine did not honor its agreement with Russia?

I think the honest answer, acted upon, would have proven to have prevented bloodshed and what little destruction there has been.

Instead of the US mediating through diplomacy, they gave a gun and encouragement to their "little brother" to fight back against the "school bully", so to speak.

Agreements were entered into by Putin's puppet government, which Paul Manafort helped win office when he worked for Konstantin Kilimnik, a Putin operative. When that group openly murdered peaceful demonstrators, the Ukranian Parliament held elections that put Zelensky into office. He was not obligated to keep the agreements of his pro-Russian predecessor. Freedom is never free. Many in Ukraine think it is worth the cost.

Using this reasoning, there was no obligation on the part of any future US president to honor the protection agreement made with Ukraine in the 80s or 90s...whenever it was that they gave up their nuclear weapons after the USSR collapsed.

Zelensky had agreed himself to the agreements, "Minsk", I believe, but reneged after the US injected itself and counseled him to not comply.
