Yes.
Do you think you're the first one to point that out? Did you think you scored a point of some kind?
Because, yes, the KKK was a part of the souther Democratic party. The Conservative party of its day.
They said things like "America First" and "States Rights" and their governors called at their National Guards to 'resist the Federal Government' (forcing them to desegregate their schools).
Does all of that sound familiar to you? Which party is saying those things today?
The votes in the south switched from Democrat to Republican almost overnight. The people who were responsible for Medger's death were still alive. They were still voting.
It's not like they died or suddenly decided to stop being racists.
They just changed who they were voting for. Their children and grandchildren are saying things like "Make America Great Again" and "State's Rights" and "America First." But they're not voting for the Democrats today, are they?
Who does the KKK endorse today? It's not Biden.
So, as a progressive, I can assure you that if I had been born back in Lincoln's or Teddy Roosevelt's day, I'd be voting Republican. Because they were the progressive party. But they're not the progressive or liberal party today.
So, yes, back then, the KKK was a part of the Democratic party. The conservative party. But that's not who they support today.
