Hunter is not a sitting member of Congress.

So? Doesn't matter; show me a law that says you can't subpoena a member of congress.

Nevermind the fact that the offer was made for a public deposition for Hunter. Only, he accepted. Once he did, GOP got their panties in a bunch and changed their mind to a closed-door deposition. The very who stormed the SCIF during an impeachment deposition.

Forgot that didn't you?

In regards to the subpoenas sent to five Republicans:

“This is all for headlines and sensationalism,” Perry told CNN. “The fact that they sent it to the press before they send it to the members is just proof it’s all about headlines. This whole thing is a charade.”

Of course, Representative Perry - (R) Pennsylvania would say that. Haven't you heard of "Poisoning the Well?"

You should check your sources better.

Show me the law that says they can.

Lawmakers on the panel have been weighing whether to subpoena their Republican colleagues for months, wrestling with whether they had the constitutional right to do so, and debating if they wanted to set such a precedent.

Also, there is a law providing that congressmen and congresswomen are not exempt from subpoenas as the text stipulates "every person."

- 2 U.S. Code § 192 - Refusal of witness to testify or produce papers

"Every person who having been summoned as a witness by the authority of either House of Congress to give testimony or to produce papers upon any matter under inquiry before either House, or any joint committee established by a joint or concurrent resolution of the two Houses of Congress, or any committee of either House of Congress, willfully makes default, or who, having appeared, refuses to answer any question pertinent to the question under inquiry, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of not more than $1,000 nor less than $100 and imprisonment in a common jail for not less than one month nor more than twelve months."

I appreciate your engagement on this issue. While it's true that Hunter Biden is not a sitting member of Congress, the comparison here is more about the principle of responding to congressional subpoenas rather than the specific legal status of an individual. The argument isn't that there's a law explicitly stating you can subpoena a member of Congress; it's about the broader expectation of cooperation with congressional inquiries.

In the case of Jim Jordan and others, the concern is that they ignored subpoenas from the select J6 committee, and this action appears hypocritical when considering their stance on holding Hunter Biden in contempt for not responding to a congressional subpoena. The absence of a specific law stating that you can subpoena a member of Congress doesn't mean they are exempt from cooperating with legitimate investigations.

It's about holding everyone to the same standard of accountability and ensuring that congressional inquiries are treated consistently, regardless of political affiliations (or, to the layman, avoiding the appearance of hypocrisy.)

The offer for a public deposition for Hunter, which later shifted to a closed-door deposition, adds another layer to the discussion about transparency and fair treatment. While Hunter Biden is not a sitting member of Congress, the principle of cooperation with congressional subpoenas should remain consistent. If we want to uphold the integrity of our political discourse, it's important to address and rectify instances of apparent hypocrisy within our ranks.

I'd also like to add that I appreciate your perspective on this matter, and it's essential to have a nuanced discussion. When we look at the actions of the GOP members who ignored subpoenas from the select J6 committee while simultaneously advocating for consequences for Hunter Biden, it seems to create a disconnect in terms of consistency. I believe it's crucial to acknowledge when there might be inconsistencies within our political affiliations.

What are your thoughts on how we can encourage more consistency and accountability within our political parties?

One last thing before you reply...

Before we delve further into the broader discussion of consistency within political parties, I want to emphasize that our focus right now is specifically on the actions of GOP members who ignored subpoenas while advocating consequences for Hunter Biden. I understand that the landscape of politics is vast and multifaceted, but narrowing our focus to this specific instance allows us to address and understand the dynamics at play in this particular scenario.

By staying focused on the details of this situation, we can work towards a better understanding of the actions and decisions of those involved, hopefully leading to a more constructive conversation.
