Yep! I live in a very rural sparsely populated area near the US/Canada border. First, the winters here get quite cold. I’ve seen my thermometer pegged at 50 below zero, and it might have been colder than that. The thermometer was pegged at its lower limit.
Cold weather numbs batteries, and undoubtedly the number of miles that you can drive when it’s 50 below is very different than it is on a sunny day in June.
Secondly, being sparsely populated, nothing of significance is close by. To get to the nearest Walmart, it takes an hour to get there, and another hour to get home. So driving long distances is just how life is in a sparsely populated area like where I live.
Third, if one needs a charging station, you’ll be hard pressed to find one anywhere in this area. So, if one sees an EV where I live, it’s clearly being driven by somebody who does not live anywhere near this area. And I have to wonder how they’ll fare if they need a charge in this area.
