Neither should.
For one thing, Trump has yet to be convicted of actually violating the 14th amendment. However, this may actually help Republicans in the long run as it’s far more likely for the Supreme Court to dismiss this. Which would, in fact, settle the matter somewhat as Trump was never technically nor officially tried by a court for his actions but by our congress, which one cannot deny may have avoided doing so purely out of self-interest rather than the public-interest.
While one could theoretically argue that the Supreme Court may also act in self-interest, depending on how they dismiss it, it would at least give Republicans a 2 to 0 on the charges.
