Allowing certain religious displays in public but not others could be looked at as exactly what it is: goverment sanctioning of a certain religion above others.
"Also separation of church and state was about people's fear of waking up one day and hearing the country is now some type of Protestant or Catholic nation instead of just a Judeo-Christian nation"
Separation of church and state was a line in a letter or some crap. It is not in the Amendment or anywhere else in the Constitution.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" means exactly that, that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.
I really don't understand why everyone pretends that Anglishe is archaic no one can understand it. They should just erase the 1st & 2nd Amendments so this absurd mockery of a distortion can end. Providing for the security of the free state has been turned into an excuse for drunken morons with no viable hobbies to spend their Welfare money on shooting beer cans and people they don't like in school. Freedom of religion has been turned into freedom FROM religion by people miffed that Santa wasn't as nice to them on Christmas as he was with the neighbor kids.
People had no fear of waking up one day in a Catholic nation because there wasn't enough Catholics to make a nation out of. Heck, Catholics didn't even get the right to vote in the FEDERATION (the USA is NOT a country) till a decade after that became a thing. And Judeo-Christian? What are we talking here, the latter half of the 20th Century? We're talking post-Revolution, not post-Hitler's program of extermination. Jews weren't granted the right to vote till TWO decades after voting became a thing ................................... for British & Germanic Protestant landowning men in the USA.
