They didn't just dig a giant-ass trench and call it a day. The canal is made of a series of locks that raise and lower the ships. Gatun Lake makes up a significant portion of the canal, and that's what is drying up.

Because there's less rain and it's getting hotter so the fresh water lake is evaporating faster.

Close the locks...pump water in until at same level as other side....open lock.....travel through. Other dorection....close lock...pump water out of tank...open lock at other sode at other water level....

I think many on here may be either taking differences of opinion very personally or taking their everyday life frustrations out on others.
