Religious Open Mind

Well, in general they don't really understand the definition of words, like "truth", "fact", "believe" and "know", just for starters.

I suspect what is meant by "open mind" is they're willing to persist in trying to convince you to accepting their belief as a universal truth. Once that ship sinks it's off to the next target or back to cult HQ to commiserate and top off religious fervor.

At least the ones in this country don't use dynamite vests as tools of persuasion.

This is the truth! LOL, got into an "discussion" with some believers at a local bar regarding the Flood of Noah. They did the whole dismissive thing: "I was an atheist too until I did some research so I know where you're coming from..."
I told them, funny -- I was a Christian apologist for 52 years, started churches, preached, led people to Christ, was a missionary ... and then my own eyes were opened.

They never know what to say at that point because I know their bible and their stories and their thought processes better than they do.

I've fenced with religion my whole life and it wasn't until I internalized that faith cannot be reasoned with that I abandoned the strategy of appealing to reason. It doesn't even bother me that they believe what they do. The crux of my beef with religion isn't that it occupies the space in a person's faculties where logic and critical thinking should reside. It's that they try to leverage their beliefs against science as thought they're on the same footing, and then throw science over because religion "disproves" it. I'm willing to grant that faith vs fact is a matter of opinon, but the moment someone says their opinion is more valid than mine...that's when I leave them to whatever fantasy world they wish for themself, because at that point it's got noting to do with me.

The other time I get out of sorts is in public settings where some jackleg tries to overwhelm people with their fake facts about The Flood or some other nonsense. I actually prepare for these types of events! LOL
