But also, as far as socialism goes, there is also the fact that these heavily socialized nations do not spend much of their income maintaining effective standing military . . . because that's what the United States is for. Hence they pour all of their national wealth into give-away programs while the United States protects their soft rumps.

why is socialism a bad thing?

Well...in theory, socialism is a big potluck, where everyone contributes and everyone benefits.
But what happens , every single time, with every type of socialism, is it gets abused, ruins the economy, and is eventually used to dictate the citizens. Every single time.
And no, it does not "sound good on paper"

I am swedish and sweden seems to be benefitting a lot from socialism. I do not see it abused there at all.

It would be more accurate to call it a welfare state.

It is not. The majority of the country is atheist. Sweden had the idea of giving other people (GASP!) HUMAN RIGHTS?!?!?! and now there is indeed a large muslim population. that does not mean the whole country is muslim.

60% of sweden is Lutheran. That's a Christian religion. Almost 10% are Muslim, the majority of the Muslims came to Sweden in the last 4 years.....that's quite a shock to the system
