I figured it out as I finished reading the book last night.
The nightmare may be real because it's an illusion of what the crying child sees because of the illusion disks. So they are most likely just misshapen endoskeletons like the twisted ones.

But it's just a theory.

When was hallucinogenic gas ever in FNAF? I remember the original theory of Crying Child hallucinating because of the bite, but I never heard if gas. The current theory is the nightmare animatronics are blobs/mannequins with illusion disks that make them appear as nightmarish

Well in one of the Tales of the Pizzaplex books it says that fnaf 4 was a experiment and the nightmare animatronics are mannequins and inside the room is a gas that makes the kid see nightmare animatronics
