These awards are outrageous and waste taxpayer dollars so we are in agreement. After reading the details of this particular person, I referred to him as being better suited to be in an asylum. This inmate had refused medication so was not receiving what might have calmed him down. He was a person who didn't like to be alone and was placed in solitary confinement. I think this was an accident waiting to happen due to his mental illness. The asylum personnel should be better equipped to deal with a man in his condition. I do have sympathy for people who are mentally ill and without the proper care I don't think will get better on their own.

Quite tragic, all the same. Perhaps police need a better pathway to put persons in 72 hour psych evaluation upon apprehension.

I recently got the Tom Sawyer collection on Amazon (bringing this up because the four books are by Mark Twain). I want to read them but everyone and everything seems pretty much determined to interrupt me anytime I try reading them lol :/
