I literally just went through a period where it was taking over 20 pulls to start. It was ok in the beginning of the season but only got worse. I discovered it was leaking oil. Adding more oil got it back to starting in one pull. I was checking the oil, but only after trying to start it - which stirs up the oil.
Now that I’m aware, I’ll be on top of it :-)

I had been considering getting a battery powered mower and be done with the gas one. But the gas one seems a lot better now than it had been. I feel stupid for not looking at the oil before trying to start it, but I put oil in it back in April. It shouldn’t have needed that much now, but I discovered the leak. I was showing a friend at work the video from my driveway camera of me trying to start it. I’m practically pulling the mower off the ground, lol. I’m too old for that crap 🤣

Words cannot express just how intensely I hate pull-start motors. I've had rage problems since I was probably 12, and the sheer futility of trying to work with those things sets me right off. And don't get me started on the "choke." Those things are more temperamental than *I* am.
