A friend of mine told me she hated the idea of the movie and won't go see it because in her view, it was salacious and exploited child sex to sell the film. She wanted every exploited child worldwide to be represented at the same time. She couldn't past her dislike of Jim Caviezel and Tim Ballard to agree that bringing this issue before the public was in any way a good thing.
It's a person's right to hate the messenger, but that hatred doesn't automatically negate the message.
It isn't possible to successfully debate with a person that committed to their position because no matter how valid one's own position, one might as well be trying to convince water that it isn't really wet.
FWIW, my friend isn't a pedo, so her position really floored me. It's almost as though she thinks that since we aren't addressing every single problem with exploited children worldwide, we should address none of them. I've given up trying to understand her position, because no matter how I look at it, it makes no sense. All she sees is Alt-Right conspiracy theorists, and to hell with literally everything they say. There is no middle ground where honest debate can happen any more.
