This seems like the best of both worlds and should definitely, DEFINITELY become a feature | Comment editing keeps getting suggested, but people complain about it like "You could just change what you said in the middle of an argument" and stuff like that; But I have solution in mind that I pulled from (of all places) DeviantArt; The idea is a comment editing time limit. On DeviantArt, you have until about 5 or 10 minutes after posting a comment to be able to edit it if you need to. After that you can't edit it. I figure it would be enough time to notice a spelling error, but not enough time to change what you said in the middle of a debate | image tagged in mr wolf is not amused, still the best, comments, edit, comment, deviantart | made w/ Imgflip meme maker

Me: -Makes a spelling mistake while in an argument.-
Also me: -Deletes comment to fix it.-
Other person: "I saw what you deleted."

It also helps out with stopping freaking out from people upvoting their comments -_-
I like the idea :)

yeah that's a good idea
my way would be to add a "comment history" thing that shows previous "versions" of the edited comment (i pulled this from FANDOM ofc, which also happens to have the time-limit mentioned in post, but they have it for a day instead of a few minutes, which even then is not enough sometimes)

That's actually really smart finally we have a solid solution to the holes people poked into our great idea

Been suggested before, as has a limit to the number of characters that can be edited before requiring mod approval.

i'd say add a "comment history" so that when a comment gets edited, anyone can see the history by clicking a clock button on the side of it

That seems like a good safety check

Good idea, but what if it's something that would require multiple edits? (Like a list that's always changing)

Ok and? People can just delete it and correct their mistakes.

And give the other person an additional notification? That could get a little spammy.
