You dont get a credit score until you use credit services, or have a credit account.

I have neither

If you have a social security number and/or pay taxes, you have a credit score

You: "I want to borrow your money"

Lender: "Have you borrowed money and paid it back to other people?"

You: "No"

Lender: "Then how do we know you'll pay our money back?"

You: "YOU'RE PENALIZING ME!"

I've never not paid any creditors.

People with low credit scores will say stuff like that.

Student loans: paid
Car loan: paid
Credit cards: paid
Credit score: FREEEEE FAAAALLLLLIIIIINNNN'

Equifax penalizes you for not having any active loans/credit lines. My student loans were paid by 2013, I've only had 2 credit cards, which I cancelled because I didn't use them, and my car was paid off in late 2017. I've been debt-free since 2018, and my credit has been slowly dropping since.

They consider whether you use credit as part of your credit score? So weird.

Why would I use something I don't need?? I refuse to spend money I don't need to nor have.

Why do you care about your credit score if you don't need credit?

That's like being worried about your pilot's license when you don't fly planes.

Idk, owning a house, or buying a new car would be nice.

Idk, use cash?

You said you don't want credit - do you or don't you?

Who tf has $45k or $200k sitting around?!? Credit has its uses. It's not my fault equifax thinks it's bad that I didnt need it for 5 years.

Not only are you bad at analogies, but you're bad at math.
At my current rate of income, it would take me 6 years to save up for a new car--assuming nothing bad happens in my life to deplete my saved residual income. And it would take me 28 years to save up for any decent 2br house--at which point, houses will undoubtedly cost TRIPLE what they do now, given the rate of inflation.

So you're saying you do actually need the credit you chose to abandon 5 years ago.

You see, your choices, logical consequences.
1 up, 1y
What he's saying, is that for everyday purchases, it's irresponsible to take on debt. So why should anyone be using debt for clothing, food, bills, or basic entertainment. If you cant afford those, you need to downsize, not take on debt.
A house or a car is an investment. Thus in that case taking on debt makes sense.
Also credit scores are used for apartment rentals, even though no debt is involved.
1 up, 1y
No, because per my previous comment:

My TransUnion credit has risen, and it is not logical to penalize someone for not owing money.
1 up, 1y
TransUnion uses a different algorithm, but based on the same data - if you've truly abandoned the use of credit the way you describe, a falling TU score is on its way.

You're really bad at analogies, you know that?

No, you're just incredibly bad at understanding them.

No, I understand them. Equifax is just f**king absurd.

It is clear you do not know how the credit score works.

You have no open credit lines. You have closed all accounts paid in full. You have ZERO credit limit. You need a ratio of credit line to credit balance. That is your credot score. Your balance is zero with a limit of zero. You are on cash systems!

Either accept it and live on cash, or play be the creditors rules.

Have fun out there!

That's not a penalty - it's the logical consequence of your decision not to use credit for more than half a decade.

Would you expect Hertz to rent you a Camry if you'd stopped driving and renewing your license in 2018, or would they be penalizing you also?
1 up, 1y
My TransUnion score goes up 4 points every month because I don't owe anyone money.
So why is my Equifax going down for the same reason?
1 up, 1y,
2 replies
You're comparing apples and tangerines.
It's *NOT* logical.
Not owing any money should be a POSITIVE thing. It should be BOOSTING my score, or sustain it at bare minimum.
2 ups, 1y,

A credit score is just an industry standard for creditors to know how profitable you'll be as a customer - it seems ridiculous to obsess over something you clearly didn't and purportedly don't want access to.
1 up, 1y,

Bro, I'd like to buy a house, or maybe a new jeep, seeing as I'm financially in the position to do so.

The "industry standard" is f**king dumb.
2 ups, 1y,
1 reply
Then go buy a house or a new jeep with cash, seeing as you're financially in the position to do so.

Or did you mean you're in the position to make monthly payments on a loan you want someone to give you?
1 up, 1y,
1 reply
Neither. I'm in a position to want one. I've been in a financial position to make payments since 2018.
See my above comment to CntrlFreq

Oh, wait, it's you. 😂😂
Still.
See above.

Imagine a landlord charging a $50 fee for paying your next month's rent a week early. That's the logic Equifax is using.
