Even with this I sometimes get the proportions wrong, most often I make the torso a bit too long.

I hate doing the torso.
I made this for a friend, gave him a hoodie so I didn't have to worry about the proportions.

The legs also wouldn't touch the ground with the pose I wanted.

I recommend making two straight legs, cutting them in half, then putting them in the pose you want. It helps keep everything the same length.
