As "English" has evolved over thousands of years, by many separated communities evolving their own dialect and influence and interpretations, plus influences from other European nations & wider, Era's and languages including Latin, Greek, Olde English, Dutch, /French, German, Italian, Spanish (plus more local languages like Gaelic, Welsh, even Cornish etc) Scandinavian languages, even places like India and the Far East etc, its no wonder its an illogical often unstructured mess. Real mixing pot.
I know. I'm English, speak it every day & have higher level English qualifications & I still struggle to make sense of it at times.
