It was fun for us. Stuff was cheap, so even we could afford a few things now and then. Sometimes, I’d put in an extra nickel, dime or quarter and tape it to a note telling them it was a tip for their trouble, lol :-)
I think I still have a few things laying around that I bought back then.
As far as the knives, we had them in our pockets at school. I think most guys had a pocket knife. I don’t recall any situation where a knife was used in a fight. Times have changed.
