You know what it is, OM, but since you feign not to know....

The tyranny of woke: CHRISTOPHER BOOKER explains how a campaign against intolerance turned into the most intolerant ideology of all.

Goodness, the only ones who use "woke" on this site - and they use it a lot - are the ones unable to explain what it means, even as they call themselves "based," which is pretty much the same thing yet supposed to be different.

Modda, our differences exceed our commonality. You and OM epitomize "WOKE MENTALITY". I oppose it as it is surface thinking (subjective feelz) and in no way supportive of our country or of Americans. It has come down to critical thinkers VS the mob. You both represent the mob.

Yet again proving my point, you have no idea what the term means, posting a link to the UK's worst tabloid being the best you can do, and one that sounds like a parody, at best.

You and I have NO commonality, despite you trying to appease me a couple of times in the previous two years with how we supposedly have sooooooo much in common and that surely deep down inside me there's one of yous just this close to coming out.
You refer to unimaginative generalities and overused tropes regardless who you address, and like I said in the past, the artificiality of all is more than a tad suspect, as you present youself also in said unimaginative generalities and overused tropes. It's just a little too artificial and script-like to not be suspect.

Tell Syd I said, "hi," - if my comment doesn't get cancel cultured fist for not fitting in with your............. groupthink.

You flatter yourself to say that I ever tried to appease you, Modda. I do not believe in appeasement of leftists. I think we need to defeat you with FACTS. A long time ago, I read a comment you made on some meme about your mom & dad's parenting techniques and I felt sympathetic to you as I know how poor parenting can mess up kids in many ways. That was it...the totality of our commonality...me, as a sympathetic female and you, as a victim. I believe your comment was to the effect that a cold wind was warmer than anything you had received as a child. Yes, I felt compassion for you. Horrible me but don't confuse that with 'appeasement'.

I do not accept the INSANITY from the left. I make no bones about it. It is SICK OF IT and it is PERVERSE to subject young children to drag queens and early sexualization. I am a mother and a grandmother and I KNOW the difference between RIGHT & WRONG. I know when our military starts teaching pronouns to our recruits, that is WRONG. I will not compromise my values at the alter of 'political correctness'. I wish you and OM well, but that is as far as I will go...

I will tell Syd you said, "hi"...

No as much as you flatter me, not that I fell for it.

Plus 3 of yous one day and 2 on another? Sure, lemme not fall for the 1st but will do for the other 4 while I'm at it!
Secretly chuckling at muh wit, respecting that at least I'm sooooo well informed... Will you add any new utterly sincere compliments when you try yet again the end of this summer too?

That article is a hoot. It describes many trumpers to a T
1 up, 2y
And stated unironically, no less.

Granted, some of the stuff about policing and PC trends in the UK are true, the rest - and those charges as well - resort to the usual buzzwords, sloganeering, and tropes we see here constantly.

Thing is, it describes trends taken into an evergrowing umbrella full of diffuse and diverse notions and movements, whereas the Alt & Far Right/MAGA are exceedingly myopic and monolithic. There simply is not even the slightest hint of divergence from the main nor would such be allowable. Any questioning is instantly demonized and ostracized.

😂😂😂

That article perfectly describes so many conservatives I know!

"Coined in the 1970s by Irving Janis, a professor of psychology, (groupthink) refers to a group of individuals fixated on a particular view of the world, whether or not there is any evidence to support it. So convinced are they that their opinion is correct that they cannot believe any sensible person would disagree. Most insidiously, this leads them to treat all those who differ from their beliefs with contemptuous hostility."

"It was no accident that Janis adapted Groupthink from this thinly disguised picture of life in Stalin’s Soviet Union, where the sense of a ‘group mind’, personified in ‘Big Brother’, was ruthlessly reinforced by means of endlessly repeated slogans, and ritualised ‘hate sessions’ directed at anyone daring to dissent in any way from the party’s line."

(Endlessly repeated slogans like "make America great again")

"Janis duly outlined three defining rules of Groupthink.
First, a group of people come to share a common view...that is not based on objective reality. These people may be convinced intellectually that their view is right but their belief cannot be tested in a way which could confirm it beyond doubt. It is simply based on a picture of the world as they imagine it to be, or, more to the point, would like it to be.
The second rule is that precisely because their shared view is essentially subjective and not provable, Groupthinkers go out of their way to insist that it is so self-evidently correct that a ‘consensus’ of all right-minded people must agree with it. Any contradictory evidence and the views of anyone who does not agree with them can be disregarded entirely.
Third, and highly significant, is the rule which states that in order to reinforce the conviction of the ‘in-group’ that their viewpoint is right, they need to treat the opinions of anyone who questions it as wholly unacceptable. These people are crassly considered incapable of engaging in any serious dialogue or debate with those who disagree with them. Those outside the bubble must be marginalised and ignored, and if necessary their views must be mercilessly caricatured to make them seem ridiculous. If this is not enough, they must be attacked in the most violently contemptuous terms, usually with the aid of some scornfully dismissive label..."

While, as in the article, "Groupthink" is oft atributed to Irving Janis in the 1970s,
it was actually coined in 1952 by William H Whyte.
Gee, wonder what trend dominated culture back then?

Irony being that these comments will be deleted exactly for that, for not fitting in with the narrative of the group. Denied, of course, by those who flag and censor here, because they never done did it.
