Just so we all remember the gender pay gap is way better today than it was 10-60 years ago. We have elders who retire from gender bias, and rely on that income from social security. But because of the gender gap they paid less into social security because they made less. And if they’re lucky enough they had a husband who made lots of money, but even the out dated practice of social security uses gender bias when awarding retirement to married couples, they both don’t receive the same benefits as individuals, it’s all calculated combined, and goes off the higher earner. One person will have the lower benefit, So then when one dies they get to pull from their own retirement earning as an individual. At the point as how I understand the system. Pretty messy. But of course divorce and other factors play a roll.
