I do think powerviolence is a metal genre. People say it is a punk genre, but to me, powerviolence has a much more metal edge than most punk genres, so I classify PV as metal.

Early Megadeth had punk lyrics with thrash instrumentals, so the punk/ metal brotherhood has always been there. But where the exact line between the two lies is up for debate...

Do you think powerviolence is a metal genre, o a punk one?

It sounds like metal to me due to the faster guitar work, but it's a grey area, since it's an offshoot of hardcore punk.

So a hybrid punk-metal genre?

Hybrid genres are impossible to perfectly define.
Eg: is black metal simply doom metal with evil lyrics? If you combined the two would you still have black metal or a brand new thing?

I gave up trying to categorize by genre ever since the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame (Shame? Lame?) started inducting anyone that ever cut a record EXCEPT FOR metal artists.

Reason why he added that;

"But I’ve put Grunge as a subset of Rock; not of Metal; and some would say that Alice in Chains, though Grunge, are more Metal than Rock. It gets complicated.

That’s why I use my own system based on how I’d naturally categorize whatever group I’m thinking about. In my system, Metal is a separate genre from Rock. Within this system I’ve put Punk as a subgenre of Metal, not of Rock, so there’s no room for “Punk Rock” in my nomenclature. To me, Punk has a harder, more “metal” edge than other types of Rock, so I categorize it as a subgenre of Metal; which I DON’T categorize as a subgenre of Rock. Others might have it as a subgenre of Rock. Others might have it as its own independent genre. a lot of what I have in New Wave or Dark Wave (both subgenres of Rock in my system) others might consider Pop. To each his/her own."

pfffffffft, just because later Metal stole thrash from Hard Core doesn't make Punk part of Metal, and New Wave and Dark Wave were outgrowths of Punk, New Wave being more Poppy, Dark Wave coming out of moddier elemements who also leaned more on synths.

I didn't said that. Just took it from Quora.

I know. My bad, I should have pointed that out for clarification. You can tell from my typos ("elemements" I was in a bit of a rush.

It's fine.

Though I do consider powerviolence as a metal genre rather than a punk one.

By 1982, nearly all music suddenly started to suck, so from then till 1985, I only listened to HC Punk and Kate Bush. But in '85, HC bands started sounding the same, and the best bands were past their prime, so that was the end of that for me.

When Speed Metal/Thrash came along, it was like, what the heck? Because all these Metalheads who said Punk sucked were suddenly slamming in the pit to this rip-off. Not that it was all bad, but I sorta tuned out to a lot of music back then.
So I'm unfamiliar with many bands and trends since.

I see. (To me powerviolence is a metal genre)
