You'll have to explain this one to me. How does the first amendment protect you from books that you might not like?

The first amendment actually allows books that you might not like to be published.

It allows people to worship in ways that you might not like.

It allows people on the internet, TV, radio, music, and movies to say things that you don't like.

It allows people to assemble in ways that you might not like.

It allows people to seek redress from the government.

All books in schools have to be thoroughly examined to certify they are in line with DeSantis's crusade against LGBT & CRT and whatever other bogeymen he imagines are threats to society.

Since they've not had the time to examine every single word in every single book (plus they might have to be certified trained to do so as well, I'm not sure) since the law went into effect in July 2022, teachers are simply emptying their shelves and closing school libraries instead of taking any chances of breaking the law.
