Sadly it turns out that the average Dem Party voter -- and waaaaaaaaaaaaay too many self-avowed 'political independents' -- apparently enjoy being lied to. I guess that's the political trick . . . finding enough easily indoctrinated natural . . . sheeple.

They lack the basic suspicion of those in power and authority. I’m more of a democrat than what they call democrats now. If you are Anti free speech, pro government mandates, pro suppression of rights. That’s not a democrat.
