Makes Sense to Me...

From the cereal manufacturers' standpoint, if you can't reseal the inner bag then you're motivated to eat their product faster OR it goes bad and you throw it away. Either outcome means that you're buying another box of cereal that much sooner.

If you can keep it fresh longer you won't buy as much.

If you go to Walmart they sell large bags of cereal that have a Ziploc type of closing device, but I've tried it and it doesn't really work because the bag just rips, making it useless

What I do instead is just open the big bag of cereal and pour it into large Ziploc freezer bags, which can be closed and reopened more easily

Interesting, Octavia, and it makes sense to use your own Ziplocs.

When my wife and I were first married she sold Tupperware as a side hustle to make some extra cash and get free (or discounted) Tupperware. They had some great units that were large enough to hold an entire cereal box. We still have some of those almost 40 years later, they work great.

When I was a kid my grandparents had a lake cottage in Michigan that we only used once a week in the summer at best. No matter what you did you had a 50/59 chance of having nasty bugs in the cereal when you went there. We would have killed for Ziplocs or Tupperware.

I understand that they were trying to make it user-friendly, but it didn't really work out very well in my opinion.
