Freedom is the absence of the initiation of force. Only defensive force and/or pre-emptive force is justified when protecting ones life, liberty, property from the initiation of force. Retaliatory Force is punishment of someone who has initiated force. If someone assaults you, you have the right to authorize government to punish those responsible on your behalf. Retaliatory force is justice.
