I have been calling on the west to make itself independent from oil from unstable regimes like Russia, China, and the entire Middle East with the possible exception of Israel since September 11, 2001. It should have been obvious even to village idiots, politicians, and bureaucrats that we cannot afford to rely on people who hate us.

You would think it was obvious, but it sure seems like we are not even as smart as village idiots. I was trying to make that point since the Ford vs Carter debates.
