There were camera crews there because the entire damn government was there. Why? To formally certify the results of the 2020 election... kind of an important function of government, particularly with the sitting President denying the results.
Seems the right-wing's "understanding" of Jan. 6 (if you want to even call it that) has gotten so warped that they have forgotten what was even happening at Congress that day. And why that day in particular, and the location of Washington, D.C. in particular, was chosen by Trump for his final "Stop the Steal" rally.
