Yep: a constitutional, democratic republic. Quite an innovation in its time, and still baffling to people who think that a government should only be described by one word.

Nope. Read the Constitution. The word democracy doesn't exist any form. Originally the closet it got to direct voting via democracy is a district within a state direct voting for House members. Otherwise the original intent was-
POTUS - Electoral College.
SCOTUS - Picked by POTUS, confirmed by Senate.
House - Direct voting by people living within a district inside a state.
Senate - Originally picked by State Legislator until it was switched to Direct Voting like House.

If my reading of what actually exists in America were limited to the set of words written in the Constitution, I'd have to believe that there are no women here.
