I don't know about the ad because I haven't found anything on it just yet. There are several groups calling themselves "Citizens for Sanity" so I don't know which one or if any of them put up this billboard.

However, there is a "progressive" journalist and opinion writer who wrote an article saying the exact same thing.

"there is a "progressive" journalist and opinion writer"

anyone with brains knows that taking opinions from op-eds is bad advice. i have photographic evidence courtesy of the reason foundation to prove that. used to call myself libertarian until i saw it.

the article, however, is talking about how violent offenders are often the receivers of violence in the first place. basically living in an average american city. gotta keep the prison complex running somehow tho

I'm just saying that there is at least one person out there who mirrors what that billboard said. Actually more than 1 because I found a few other articles that were similar.

And certainly, how Gov Newsom has stood directly in the way of law enforcement so much that California is no longer a moderately safe place to live. I mean there have always been bad neighborhoods in LA (where I grew up). There's bad areas in the SF Bay Area as well. But from what I hear from people who live there is that crime is completely out of control. Perhaps what Gov Newsom is doing is recreating the Kurt Russel movie "Escape from LA" only he will be walling off the entire state.

I am not doubting what you have found out about that billboard. Politics has always been underhanded. You didn't provide any source material, nor was I asking for any because I know how to do an internet search. I didn't spend a whole lot of time (because I'm lazy) and I didn't find that Reason mag article.

"used to call myself libertarian until i saw it."

Just curious but what was it that you saw.

have good chuckle at this :)

i did make a meme a few months (or weeks, idk) about how newsom did more to fight pedophiles by pardoning a victim as opposed to desantis' approach to fighting groomers. california's poor condition comes from the way its infrastructure and economies are set up:

Hollywood and Los Angeles are designed around show business and the film industry, and basically kill the dreams of any trained actor who lands in the wrong movie/tv show, while underpaying the CGI specialists responsible for rendering the dinosaurs in Jurassic World films.

Silicon Valley has a track record of prestigious tech companies and as a result, anyone willing to start a business there must run a company that fills a void that didn't exist previously. If you're not a naive tech bro, you'd better stay away from Palo Alto or San Jose at all costs.
Every city in the state has suburban sprawl that's only cheap for a family of five, and a downtown core that is dirty and still highly-priced. Public transportation is limited in most places outside of the Silicon Valley, and the suburban sprawl has resulted in cities that are unsustainable due to the costs of bringing out utilities to said housing. Hasn't stopped Californian politicians from attempting to maintain them, thus resulting in high taxes.
The result, is that you get an entire state with its major cities flooding with homelessness and crime.
Not a fan of him myself, but Newsom is a guy in charge of a difficult job; that being writing and deciding policy for a state whose economy outpaces the rest of the country. every flaw that gets glanced at in California is attributed to him, even though it was bound to happen from California's previous decision-makers. Captain Hindsight here to say it probably would've never happened to this extent if the Pacific Electric stayed open...
He is trying to rewrite law enforcement from what I know, and even that can't be done efficiently without solving the roots of the problem, of which I already previously outlined.

Getting harder and harder to tell what is parody and what is real...

This is how far the lunatic left has gone. This billboard may be a parody, but it speaks truth of how many San Francisco lefties felt when they pushed to close San Quinton prison and defund the police. Some of the arguments they used, recorded on TV news interviews, spew the same points such as "These people are not criminals, they're our brothers, sons, fathers, and cousins."
