This enrages me. Not even opportunities, but capabilities. The people that say I worked 60 hours a week in manual labor so everyone else should be okay doing that just to get by. I've had several jobs now where I've blacked out from exhaustion because I've been expected to over perform like other people can, when that's just not possible for me. It's insane what some people think is normal behavior.

Also, worth noting, suicide rate in Japan is higher, there are currently studies (and results of said studies) that are linking (more and more) increased higher workloads with increasing demand to depression and lack of fulfillment in life.

Japan is like this version of America if things worked out... sideways in time.
They are very communal; reputation, thinking about others and their reputation, how others think of you, putting others before yourself are very big traits over there. That's the social aspect of it. They're very sexually liberal as I understand while maintaining a conservative facade about it.
Economically? Super capitalism. But, they do it right as far as the consumer is concerned.
Work force? Super Capitalism, doing it horribly.

The real history of pulling yourself up by your bootstraps is it can't be done. It was meant to point out you can't lift yourself and need help. But those that ignore history are usual do so out of self-interest
