Based Republican Party platform (1956)

only problem is that immediately following this the government got involved in all of that plus everything else and made every situation worse than when it started by a wide margin.
More poverty, more single parent families, more drug use, absurd cost of housing, absurd hospital bills, absurd education, every public service barely functional despite skyrocketing budgets..

I'm pretty sure Ike wouldn't be in support of much if he saw it in practice, rather than on paper.

I'm not saying that I agree with it in every point, but it's certainly food for thought about what constitutes a solid Republican program.

I doubt anyone would disagree with those points as general ideas. But when you get down into the details, both major parties find what the other party wants to do to be unacceptable. Since we are no longer a society led by politicians capable of reasonable compromise, well, we get what we deserve.

Term limits would go along way toward solving our differences, imo. That, and a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution. Sure, at first that one would be a keg of dynamite, but many states manage to do it. I dare the federal govt to be at least as responsible. (note: dare will be ignored, as expected)
