If seperate what do you think it (we) really are?

If you believe in astral projection or ghosts one must assume it is a separate existence. But if we can experience consciousness separate from our brains it begs the question why are there no consciousnesses that exist before the brains do? Is the brain the key that activates or awakens the consciouseness, but one once manifested can exist separately?

I find it difficult to believe that the near-random exchange of electricity and chemicals can give rise to... this. Surely at the very least consciousness is a thing greater then the sum of it's parts, if not separate entirely.

Prolly an emergent phemomenon arising from the inordinate complexities of the human brain. Still not sure what preasure naturally selected for it. No apparent survival benefit and I find the more of it I kill with booze the happier I feel. 🤷
