German scientists Otto Hahn, Fritz Strassmann and Lise Meitner. Lise Meitner was one of the very few women in physics in the mid 20th century. Born in Vienna, Austria, she proposed the term ‘fission’ for splitting the atom after discovering the process with Hahn and Strassman in 1938.
