I want to see data on that 47,000. Is that world-wide?

It is world-wide. Before Roe v. Wade, a little less than 200 were dying each year in the U.S. due to unsafe abortion.

This report estimates higher at 70,000: https://web.archive.org/web/20110716212405/http://www.sogc.org/jogc/abstracts/full/200912_WomensHealth_1.pdf

Thanks! Of course, maternal mortality should be figured into those numbers as well; there are certainly women dying from unsafe pregnancies around the world.

Babies die from abortion = 1 million plus a year
Unsafe abortion = 47,000 a year
Yeah makes sense

Not to mention 5 million hospitalizations worldwide

Oh i thought we are talking deaths. There's a lot of hospitalization worldwide for a lot of reasons. Your point is?

If you are curious about the discrepancy, not everyone dies from an unsafe abortion. You're talking about 1 million abortions in the U.S. alone, where it has been legal for about 50 years. We will see more deaths now that the practice is becoming criminalized for half the country.

So you don't think this provides incentive for women and men to practice safe sex? This doesn't say hey, you gotta be responsible for your actions? No more freely having sex, unprotected, with no consequences. No more making government programs get rich, killing off poverished communities, and doing who knows what with the body parts. Wake up! This program and act of killing your baby has no benefits except for certain circumstances. For all we know we've killed geniuses, leaders, innovators, and game changers. No where do you provide any statistics to back your claims. The aborted aren't included in your statistics. The left took a simple policy, pushed and pushed, and now want late term. Shame on all. Your side has took it to far for any logical person argue all you want. History has proven majority isn't always right.

You can speak to millions of people who have had abortions and they can tell you exactly what the benefits were for them. A majority will tell you they initially felt overwhelming relief after the abortion procedure. They will tell you how an abortion helped them finish school, not cripple with debt, not have to take on another kid, some might even tell you how it literally saved their lives.

Safe sex still does not guarantee no pregnancy, and contraceptives often fail. It's more common than most people think. Even an IUD is not totally guaranteed. I think some will reconsider sex, and this won't have the consequence I think Republicans were intending to have, which was increase the birthing rate for (white) people.

If you read any of my comments below I cite my sources. Not my fault that you're not looking at them. The aborted are not included in my statistics, because as I said, the number of abortions does not significantly change depending on if a country allows it or not, and any rational person would prioritize the life of a pregnant person over an unborn fetus.

"Late-term abortions" take place typically when the fetus is not going to make it, or when there is a threat to the pregnant person's life, or when Republicans have restricted access to abortion and this is the soonest they could get one. It's like the GOP are their own worst enemies.

So a bunch of self gratification. Bunch of self worship. It's pretty simple, if you're not ready. Be a responsible adult. You have no argument. Less than 10 % of abortions are from medical issues or rape. I'm old enough to remember it wasn't promoted as flipping Healthcare. Your clueless, and your talking points are the same I hear everyday. At least be original in promoting your sins. Rant all you want. Getting you nowhere with me. I will never agree with your twisted logic.

I don't think I'm twisted, I think I'm just rational because it really doesn't matter whether you believe in abortion morally or not, because abortion laws have little effect on whether they still happen. Your pro-life stance is rather ironic because you are allowing for more deaths to occur when you make abortions underground and criminal.

I don't apply the laws of the fallen world. I apply the laws given by god. Men are evil, and are tools of the devil. God created everyone in his image. He tells me life begins at conception. It's his greatest creation, and lost souls like you spit on it everyday. So there's my logic, morals, and frankly I don't give a damn about your talking points. You laws of men, don't apply here. Let me give you a fact about real women and mothers back in my day. They would've died for their child to live. I think no one is arguing the fact, it's up to the mother if it comes to that. This issue has been abused, and I lived it. I know, I watched what a woman can do to your child, and I have no rights to stop it. Hush, hush. Or what about my career. Or we're not married, it's an embarrassment. Oh I know. Pride before the fall buddy. That damn pride and vanity everyone loves nowadays. Please. Abused for decades.

"I don't give a damn about your talking points" translates to, I don't give a damn about your figures and statistics.

You are making yourself sound as though you have been around since before Roe, and maybe that's the case, and if it is I don't think you were paying very close attention because abortions were still happening in the U.S., they've been happening ever since people have started becoming pregnant. The number of abortions has been steadily declining since the 70s. They will probably go up in number.

If you valued "god's creation" so much, you wouldn't sacrifice the lives of pregnant people in your fight for the unborn.

"Men are evil, and are tools of the devil. God created everyone in his image." Thank you for admitting that god is evil. From what I have read he is the worst tyrant imaginable, but fortunately he is probably not real anyway. You say we are his creation. Is god material or immaterial? If the answer is immaterial, how did material creation come from an immaterial being? If humans are god's creation, when were we created, because the Bible says it was on the sixth day of creation, but we know the earth is 4.5 billion years old and humans just 200,000 years old. Could it be the Bible is full of shit or did the tricky devil plant false science to fool us?
0 ups, 2y
No. Let me explain again since your having trouble. I believe God, not you. Not the flesh. Not your scientists. Clear enough? Wtf is with your generation. I gave a concise answer, but your telling me what I mean. You don't know god, so stop acting like it. Make sure you tell God how you feel come judgement day. See if he agrees. The devil is the master of deception, clearly you are an easy target.

I'm going to tell you something quite personal.

For more than a decade I've been diagnosed with OCD. My very first obsession was the fear that I would be possessed by demons, and that I was an easy target because of my fear of them. I had thoughts that I could send demons toward other people to harm them. I did mental compulsions to counter these thoughts, ritualistically repeating religious sentences in my head, wearing a rosary.

This was insanity. This is what fantasy is like. Believing in the devil and demons. Obviously I was never in any harm, and no demons were ever going to harm me because they obviously do not exist. I realized the harm that religion, the thing that actually does exist, was doing to me and rejected it entirely.

Some of us have experienced things that can't be explained to non believers. I'm not gonna keep arguing. I planted the seed. It's up to you if it's to grow. Happy 4th

Pretty well-tested. Planned Parenthood provides a lot of reproductive health services, especially birth control. Most of the people using those services will not need abortions. When people rush to close Planned Parenthood sites and block other forms of health services, abortion rates go up.

This is what blows my mind. Any time Republicans are confronted with facts and studies, they just laugh it off or say "I don't believe that". You're basically maintaining your politics by ignoring evidence that contradicts your views, which makes you terribly ignorant. Are you proud of that?

“Improved contraceptive use, and in turn, declines in unintended pregnancy rates are the likely driver behind the worldwide decline in abortion rates,” Susheela Singh, vice president for international research at the Guttmacher Institute, said in a statement.

So what we can conclude from the report is that, abortions still happen regardless of legality, the rate of abortions does not alter drastically. The report also confirms that countries where abortion is criminalized, more abortions occur. What is suspected to be the greatest contribution to the decline of abortions is access to contraception. So what are you confused about?
