Unfortunately doesn't work for other related words though.
P = Momentum (English) = élan (French)
J = Impulse = impulsion
U = potential energy = énergie potentielle
L = Angular momentum = Moment angulaire
... etc
it's like saying iron and Fe aren't the same, but Fe means ferrum (?), the latin word for iron. Pb for lead means plumbum, the latin word for plumber. people back then used lead pipes for everything.

Uhh acktually it’s for velocity not speed, but velocity also entails direction, so it’s not the same.
