He was still eligible to run in 1968 but he chose not to. Read the 22nd Amendment.

It must be a cold day in hell, but yeah, that's what I came on here to say, but y'all beat me to it.

LBJ was eligible to run for a second full term in 1968 but didn't do it. November 63 - January 6 didn't count as a full term.

Top 10 Unfortunate Political One-Liners

Some fun stuff here: Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton have 4 out of the Top 10!

Here's the one-liner from LBJ:

"We still seek no wider war."

President Johnson announced to the nation after the Gulf of Tonkin incident in August, 1964 that the U.S. would not rise to the bait after what was considered a provocative attack from Hanoi. While the American government claimed that North Vietnamese warships had attacked U.S. vessels in the Gulf, it later turned out to be the opposite. The Vietnam escalation followed shortly thereafter.

I like the scene in Full Metal Jacket with Cowboy where he quotes LBJ about not sending U.S. boys thousands of miles away to fight war that the Vietnamese should fight for themselves.

Will they redo the list after Biden's term is over? I can see him getting at least 4 on there himself.

The term LBJ was elected for in 1964 was his second term (the first one was a fraction of a term)

LBJ was eligible in 1968 since he had served less than half of JFK's term but he decided not to do so

If he had run and been elected in 1968, it would have been his Third term. (His first term was fractional)
