Last I know, you have to follow each other in order to message each other, unless someone creates a temporary link for said purpose (not sure how).
WORD OF WARNING: I had followed that memer either by accident, or to look at again as they might seem like trouble, or to encourage a newb or whomever who has hardy any followers. Most whom I follow are so not so well known, I forget who most of them are myself.
Anyways, that memer got all hostile asking why I followed, so I hit block, but have unblocked them on occasion because that was sometimes obstructing my view of other folk's replies to me. And when I do that, I get yet another pm from that one giving a link to another of their memes.
