Gas. It's more expensive than the coal but it keeps the power on.

Are you referring to a gas home generator or a gas-fired power station?

Home generator. The power routinely goes out where I live. I got tired of it interrupting my working from home so now the power goes out I start my generator. 5 minute interruption. If you have the money you can get a power backup and a generator that automatically starts when the power goes out and have no downtime.

I like the propane ones,no worries about separation of fuel

They don't work well in extreme cold.
